FBISD to Host Community Dialogue Meetings to Share District-Wide Feeder Patterns/Boundary Planning Information

The process to develop long-term District-wide feeder patterns and school boundaries is moving forward as Fort Bend ISD begins to seek community feedback on its preliminary plan.

During a regularly scheduled Board Meeting on Monday, October 20, the FBISD administration presented a comprehensive proposal that has been developed over the last few months. “The feeder pattern process is aligned with the policy approved by the Board of Trustees in August,” said Board of Trustee President Grayle James. “We’ve put the policy into a plan.”

Members of the public will have several opportunities to participate in the development process before the Board of Trustees votes on its final recommendations.

Those who were unable to attend this week’s Community Dialogue meetings will soon be able to view the preliminary feeder pattern and school boundary plan on www.fortbendisd.com and the District will continue taking comments on the plan through November 4.

In addition, campus-based focus groups will be reviewing the proposed boundary plans. “The principals of the schools affected by the boundary changes will be contacted so they can form local focus groups,” FBISD Executive Director of Talent Management Beth Martinez told board members Monday night.

Meetings regarding boundaries will be held in December and Information Meetings for the District-wide Feeder Patterns and Boundaries will be held in January.  Newly-aligned District-wide feeder patterns will be recommended for Board approval in January 2015.

In January 2015, the administration will also ask the Board to consider approval of boundaries for two new elementary schools to be built in Aliana (Elementary 46) and Riverstone (Elementary 47). In addition, the Board will consider boundary changes designed to support the new feeder pattern alignment and/or provide relief to some campuses that are significantly overcrowded. Elementary campuses that may be impacted are Schiff, Heritage Rose, Goodman, Burton, Brazos Bend, and Walker Station.
